The Deepening our Understanding of Quality in Australia Project

by the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Macquarie University

Dear Friends of DUQuA

The Deepening Our Understanding of Quality in Australia (DUQuA) Project is bringing us closer to understanding why, after decades of improvement to the health system, patients still receive care that is highly variable.

Over the last 12 months, DUQuA has collected more than 4,000 sets of data and received feedback from almost 1,900 participants from 32 of Australia’s largest public hospitals.

The results of this study will enable researchers to benchmark key features of quality management systems which effect patient outcomes in Australian hospitals. It will provide participating hospitals with the insight necessary to affect large-scale effective change.

Hospitals will see how they perform in comparison with similar hospitals across Australia and discover whether their quality management activities are making a difference for patients. They will also learn of ways to enhance the provision of healthcare so as to continually improve outcomes.

We offer our sincere thanks to all stakeholders, medical administrators, clinicians, support staff, patients and patient families who contributed to DUQuA. Commentary on results will commence fourth quarter 2017.

Warm regards
